My son had to learn about Australia in 6th standard. Geography had always been a boring subject in my school days and I was thinking how to make it interesting for him. Both my son and I are nature lovers and enjoy travelling too. When some one likes visiting various places, how can learning Geography be boring ?
We decided to travel virtually through Australia and thanks to You Tube that we had a virtual visit to Ayers rocks, Great Barrier Reefs , the culture of aborginies and also could undersatnd how a boomerang works. We even visited the portal of "Flying doctor servcie" in Australia. Of course , it took some time to go through various videos and portals , but I am sure that my son wont ever forget the facts about Australia . It was not any more boring. That is when my son showed me the book he had -Down and Out Down Under, Geronimo Stilton series - which has beautifully portrayed Australia. It is fun reading this book , at the same time , it is learning too..
The term Down Under is a colloquialism which is variously construed either to refer to Australia and New Zealand, or Australia alone. The term comes from the fact that these countries are located in the southern hemisphere, 'below' many other countries on the globe
